The hotel occupies two buildings in Plaza Mayor. One of these buildings used to be the guild of the butchers of the city. As most plazas in Spain, these were places for trade and the butchers guild played an important role here. The second building was one of the main fire stations in the city.
The hotel has retained many original elements from the buildings and restoration has paid attention to comfort, but also to heritage.
The hotel offers 89 rooms, 39 of which open to the Plaza Mayor (the remaining to the courtyard). .Rooms are a bit below average for this level of hotel but they are decorated with a relaxing color palette and excellent material. The beds are very comfortable and top qulaity linen is used. The floors, tiles at the bathrooms and the overall decoration provide a luxury vibe and the feeling that we stay at a 5 star hotel rather than at at a 4-star.
All rooms are equipped with free WIFI, air conditioning, closet space, a work desk, flat-screen TV and a private bathroom which is, in comparison with the rooms, more spacious.
The hotel serves a daily buffet-style breakfast. The main highlight of the hotel is the pool at the rooftop terrace. This is not a pool to swim, but rather to relax and refresh. The terrace offers amazing views over the Plaza Mayor.

This is one of the most unique hotels where you can stay in Madrid, that is for sure. The feeling of opening a French window and stepping out to the small balcony that offers views to the Plaza Mayor is a fantastic experience (though rooms to the courtyard are quieter).
This is a very romantic option in Madrid which would be perfect for you if you enjoy hotels at unique locations and historical buildings. If you would rather consider a lower budget but would not like to sacrifice on location nor building, you may want to consider the Rui Plaza de España. It does not provide the same charm, but also boasts a rooftop pool, offers a great location, and at a historical building in Madrid.
