Hotel Melia Castilla
The Meliá Castilla Hotel is a huge hotel located near the Paseo de la Castellana. It is normally used by a business audience and it is classically decorated. The hotel features a seasonal outdoor pool, a full fitness center, and the Caroli wellness center. This is a 15-floor huge hotel with architecture from the 1970s that makes it look almost like an office building. Business customers and congresses are the main target for this massive hotel that proposes a large swimming-pool, spacious rooms and one of the best buffet-breakfasts in town.
Rooms
The rooms are very spacious (standard rooms have 24 square meters) and are equipped with free WIFI, a private bathroom, and air conditioning and all offer a pillow menu as well.
The hotel has no less than 915 rooms. Room renovation is not undertaken at the same time for all rooms as you can rightly imagine. This implies not all rooms share the same level of decoration or comfort. The most recently renovated rooms have a modern design where stainless steel is present, and some chic elements that contribute to a relaxed atmosphere.
Most rooms have good views of the city, and these get only better for rooms on the upper floors.
Bathrooms are also spacious and traditionally decorated, with marble playing an important role.
Services
The hotel’s restaurant, the L’Albufera specializes in rice dishes and paella. The restaurant serves a buffet-style breakfast every morning.
The hotel also has a VIP area where guests can enjoy exclusive services such as a private entrance, private buffet-style breakfast, complimentary aperitifs and drinks, and organized activities in Madrid.
The hotel also caters to its youngest guests with a junior club, daycare service, kids menus, etc.
Location
The Cuzco metro station is just 200 meters away and the hotel is ideally located so as to get to IFEMA, Madrid’s Municipal Convention center and the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport.
The Santiago Bernabéu stadium is just 10 minutes away on foot. The 4-Star Meliá Castilla is located right by the Paseo de la Castellana.
Overall review
As it is the case for the smaller NH Collection Eurobuilding hotel, the Melia Castilla hotel is located far from the city´s top attractions. This hotel is mainly thought for business travelers, but in case you do not mind being far from the historical heart of the city and you enjoy very large hotels with many services, the Melia Castilla can be an interesting option for you. In low business season or during weekends it may be possible to get good deals (though the proximity to the Bernabeu stadium attracts soccer fans from all over Spain).
Despite not being close to the Prado museum, Plaza Mayor, etc. these attractions can be reached by taxi in 15 minutes. Madrid is not a huge city after all.
This hotel is for sure not for you if you prefer boutique hotels or locations close to top sights. Otherwise, and especially if you enjoy a swimming pool where you can actually swim and large rooms, the Melia Castilla could be a good option on dates when it really brings lots of value for money.
