GARUM 2.1 – Review

Garum 2.1 offers a pleasant and comfortable environment. The space at the restaurant is distributed over two floors (with the kitchen on the third floor) The staff is professional and they provide adequate information on the menu and its details, ingredients, and preparation.

The restaurant is located near the Puente de Miraflores, and 6 minutes walk from the Cathedral and Great Mosque. The walls of the restuarnt were part of the ancient City walls.

The name derives from the roman Garum, a highly searched ingredient prepared in the South of Spain and traded all over the Roman Empire.

From the outside, Garum 2.1 may look like your run-of-the-mill Cordobés tavern, but this is not the case. Inside you will find a small dining area, decorated again in a traditional manner. The menú however offers a variety of modernized Andalusian classics that take the whole experience to the next level. Garum 2.1 is located in the center of the city, so if you are in the area and want to experience a modern version of cordobés classics, head on over.

Menu

Both locals and tourists alike visit Garum 2.1 in search of a good mix of tradition and innovation in its menus. This is not a tourist restaurant. Its core is not the decoration nor a patio. The kitchen and the ingredients are at the heart of the project.

The chef takes great care of the seasonality of ingredients and searches for contrasts in flavors that don´t let the customers indifferent.
The creativity of the chef has been rewarded on several occasions. Garum 2.1’s salmorejo with amontillado wine became the best tapa in Cordoba, but it is not the only innovative dish you will find here; a good example is the surprising oxtail churro with chocolate.

Overall review

Garum 2.1 is very different from a traditional tavern in Cordoba. Since you will be visiting Cordoba once, it is very likely you would opt for more traditional options, but if you enjoy discovering restaurants back at home, and enjoy tasting menus, you can be sure Garum 2.1 can be a perfect choice for you.  Garum is with no doubt amongst the best restaurants in Cordoba

Q Which attractions are near restaurant GARUM 2.1?

Q Which dishes are typical from Cordoba?

A dish is really local when, if asked about it in other regions, people can connect without a doubt the name of the dish with the province or city This is for sure the case of Cordoba, with some names always associated to Cordoba. Among them, salmorejo is probably the best know case. A tomato soup made with olive oil, bread and ham and boiled egg toppings. Simply delicious. Flamenquinos are also associated to Cordoba. These are battered pieces of ham (sometimes also pork) with cheese inside. The Rabo de toro or bull tail is normally served as a stew. Regañas is the local shape bread takes here: dry, crispy and perfect with tapas. Last but not least we should mention the local wines of the Montilla Moriles DOC

Q How much shoudl I tip at this restaurant?

There is no precise rule as to how much to tip in Spain. Spaniards only tip if they consider the service to be good. A 5% is normally considered a good tip. Having said this, some local waiters know tourists tip more than local Spaniards do and may expect more from foreigners.
