The Catalonia Puerta del Sol offers both a great location and a fantastic historical building. You will stay at a palace where the old carriage access is the reception today and the fantastic courtyard of the palace has been transformed into a charming central social area.
La Puerta del Sol is just 50 meters from the hotel. The 3 major art museums of the city are also just 15 minutes away on foot, as is the Atocha train station. If you decide to stay at this hotel you will be close to the main tourist sights in Madrid. Starting with Puerta del Sol, where the building of the Madrid regional government is located, and which boasts the famous clock that, every year, is the top city highlight at New Year´s Eve. The Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, Retiro Park or Prado Museum are at less than 15 minutes walk from the hotel.
The hotel has 63 rooms, of mid to large size. All rooms are elegantly decorated with a classical style and earthy and wooden decoration. Rooms are equipped with air conditioning, parquet floors, flat-screen satellite TV, a private bathroom, and a minibar. The bathrooms are large and use marble in decoration. Maybe not the fanciest decoration but very clean and spacious.
Since the hotel is located in a busy area, the windows are equipped with double glazing.
The hotel restaurant serves a daily buffet-style breakfast. The hotel also has a covered interior patio where guests can kick back and enjoy a relaxing drink.
The hotel boasts a courtyard with a glass ceiling, a perfect space to relax and meet.
The Catalonia Puerta del Sol hotel is perfect for you if you like to stay in historical buildings at excellent locations where nearly everything is at walking distance.
The hotel does not offer the most updated or minimalist decoration, so if you enjoy ultra-modern hotels with the latest design this is not probably your best option. Having said this, the hotel offers good value for money (taking into account both the location and the quality of the hotel) and is amongst our favorite options near Sol.
