Carlos Baena restaurant in Seville

Carlos Baena restaurant is located near the “Puente de los Bomberos” in the center of Seville. It is a beautiful restaurant, with an excellent terrace, that has been in service for over 20 years. They serve traditional homemade Andalusian dishes, whipped up by brother/ sister chef duo María Ángeles y Juan Carlos. Carlos Baena also features an extensive wine menu that highlights wines from Ribera del Duero and Rioja.

Portions are large and rather than tapas you should expect “racion” sizes.

The service is quick but you should not expect much English to be spoken.

This is a place where locals go. It is not at the most touristic area of Santa Cruz, but this also explains why both the menu and the clientele is less of what you expect at a potential tourist trap. Carlos Baena offers good value for money and a great terrace on the upper floor.

Style of this restaurant

Spanish gastronomy derives from a very complex history and the influence of many cultures, but also a very diverse landscape. There are very large differences from region to region and despite Spanish gastronomy is meant to be “Mediterranean”, local dishes are to be found in each region or province. There are some very famous “national dishes” like paella or fideua from Valencia, cocido from Madrid, Gazpacho from Andalusia, Pan amb tomato from Catalonia, pintos from Basque country, octopus from Galicia and the list goes on and on… A restaurant offering traditional spanish gastronomy may opt in its menu to offer a selection of some of these dishes.

Q Which attractions are near restaurant Carlos Baena

Q Which dishes are typical from Seville?

There are no specific dishes that we can say are typically "sevillanos". But being the capital of Andalusia, Seville is a melting point for all good local andalusian dishes. Soldaditos de Pavia (strips of battered cod), gazpacho, cazon en adobon (marinated fried fish) and others can be found at most bars

Q How much shoudl I tip at this restaurant?

There is no precise rule as to how much to tip in Spain. Spaniards only tip if they consider the service to be good. A 5% is normally considered a good tip. Having said this, some local waiters know tourists tip more than local Spaniards do and may expect more from foreigners.
