This tower is also known as the “Mirador de les Animes” the “lookout of souls”. This old watch tower has amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Mallorcan coastline. Located very close to Bañalbufar, this area is a must see in Mallorca with highlights such as Valdemossa, where Chopin composed some of this famous preludes and where he lived his own romance with George Sand.

Herbeira Sentry

This 18th-century sentry sits at the edge of a 620-meter cliff on the coast of A Coruña, Galicia in the North of Spain. It’s the 4thhighest such construction in all of Europe.  Despite this is one of the most remote places in Spain, a visit to this incredible cliff can be a good option during a road trip in Northern Spain.

The Balearic islands where at a time in history a good place for pirates. This tower is also known as “The Pirates Tower” and it has stood since 1756 looking out over the Mediterranean Sea and the tiny islands of Es Vedra and Es Vedranell. It is located in what is currently the Cala d’Hort natural park in Ibiza.

The view from here is truly breath-taking. The lighthouse looks out towards Morocco and sits between Alemanes can Cañuelo beach. The walk to the lighthouse is also particularly enjoyable since you have to walk through the Estrecho natural park  in Cadiz, Andalusia. This area of Spain is included in our road trip in South Spain and it is a perfect day excursion during a stay in Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera or Vejer de la frontera

Slightly east of what was considered by the Roman Empire as the end of the world stands this ancient light house, the oldest of its kind still in use. Located very close to Coruña, this is a perfect excursion during a trip in Northern Spain.

The magic of this site comes alive at dusk. The cliffs where the lighthouse is built are layered and multi-coloured, but as the sun is setting the mixture of light and colours is definitely a sight to see.

Mount Santa Tecla

At the top of Mount Santa Tecla there is an ancient fortified Celtic village. This was once the center of a vast territory spanning from the north of Galicia all the way to the point where the Miño river meats the Atlantic Ocean.

It is easy to see why the ancient Celtic people would choose to settle here.

San Juan of Gaztelugatxe

A the treacherous looking winding fortified walk way leads to a small church that sits on a small rock off the coast of the Basque country, at less than a hour ride from Bilbao. The place is special enough, even if it hadn’t been featured on Game of Thrones.

The area is now more famous than ever, but few stay until sunset when the cliffs really come alive.

Located west of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in the region of Cantabria in North of Spain, the name of this coast derives from “Quebrado”, which means shattered in English. It is immediately evident why this name was chosen t. Jagged rocks jet out of the water, as if someone had taken a hammer to the coast line and only left scattered shards. It is a place of great natural beauty which is worth visiting if you are in the area.

Trafalgar is the site of one of Spain’s worst naval defeats at the hands of the British empire. Currently, next to the waters where this battle took place, stands a lighthouse. The sunset from this point is absolutely worth seeing.
