About the hotel
This impressive Parador Hotel is one of the prettiest in Spain. Located in an old Gothic castle, the rooms are spacious and have all things one needs, despite being built more than 600 years ago. You have magnificent views of the village, surrounding mountains and vineyards. The location of the hotel is ideal for walking around the village and discovering the restaurants and cafes in the area.
You have a dinner included at the Parador's restaurant. Paradores have a varied menu of local products which you will have the opportunity to taste during your getaway in Olite. For instance this includes: artichokes of Navarre, Beltza mushrooms (typical of Navarre), lamb with Chilindrón and curd for dessert; traditional Navarrese dishes are of exceptional quality. The history of Olite begins with the Goths, who build a village to cope with the Vascones in the 7th Century. Already in the S XII Century, and with the achievement of jurisdictions, Olite began to grow in importance resulting in the Kings deciding to build a royal palace which is today the castle and Parador de Olite.
Nearby olite there are countless places to visit starting with the Royal Palace, which is open to visitors to see. It is said to be one of the most luxurious medieval palaces in Europe with countless rooms which are decorated with the most striking elements.
Besides the palace in Olite, there are many other places to visit such as the Navarre Wine Museum. Open every day, this didactic museum allows us to know about the different aspects of wine and its elaboration from the vineyard to the bottle. You will get to see various videos and explanatory panels to learn about the winemaking process.
The churches of Santa Maria and San Pedro are built in different styles such as Romanesque and Gothic; both the tower and the Baroque marvellously stand out. It is the oldest church in Olite and is a must to visit.
If you agree on dates, you can attend the medieval festivities in August. Here you can enjoy medieval gastronomy and dramatized visits among many other things.
Near Olite is the capital of Navarre where you will be able to make half-day visits and there are also small towns nearby like the medieval village of Ujué. Near Sangüesa is the Monastero de Leyre (an important religious and cultural enclave of the Kingdom of Navarre) and the castle of Javier - already attached to Aragon.
Tudela and Las Bárdenas reales are other options to visit, although they are slightly further away. In addition to all you will discover many more things during your getaway at the Parador de Olite.
